Safety Notice & Platform Disclaimer

Illini Market only helps users discover listings, express interest, and share contact details. The platform does not participate in or handle transactions.

No payments or transaction guarantees

The platform does not provide payments, escrow, refunds, delivery, insurance, or transaction guarantees. Users independently arrange payment and pickup and assume the associated risks.

Recognize common scams

Do not pay based only on screenshots, and avoid deposits, “verification fees,” suspicious payment links, gift cards, cryptocurrency, or requests to relay security codes. Verify the item, price, and person before paying.

Protect your account and privacy

Never share passwords, email codes, banking details, ID photos, or your exact dorm room. Illini Market staff will never ask for your password or verification code.

Choose a safer in-person exchange

Meet during daylight in a busy, monitored public place and tell a friend your plans. Bring someone for high-value items, and inspect or test the item before paying. Leave immediately and contact local police if you feel threatened.

The platform cannot guarantee user identity, listing accuracy, item quality, legality, or transaction safety, and it does not resolve transaction disputes. By using the platform, you understand and accept the risks of communicating and trading with other users. This is an independent student project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by UIUC.

I have read and understood this notice. I agree to assess transaction risks myself and follow applicable laws and platform rules.
